Sikorsky renames helicopter biz unit
By Mass High Tech staff
Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp., has announced the introduction of Sikorsky Global Helicopters, a rebranded business unit made up of some of the company’s existing aircraft platforms.
Included in Sikorsky Global Helicopters are the S-76, S-92 and H-92 helicopters; Schweizer Aircraft platforms S-300c, S-300CBi, S-333 and S-434 helicopters; and all operations of Keystone Helicopter Corp. and Associated Aircraft Group (AAG).
Stratford, Conn.-based Sikorsky Aircraft currently has its business units spread across Connecticut, New York and Pennsylvania. Sikorsky Global Helicopters will have its manufacturing and production facilities at its Coatesville, Penn.-based site.
Last month, the company reported that it had landed $4 million from a subsidiary of mercenary company Blackwater Worldwide to provide head-up display systems. Under the contract, the Stratford, Conn.-based company’s aerospace services division will provide Presidential Airways Inc. with head-up displays that allow pilots to see flight instruments and other helicopter information through an eyepiece in their helmet without having to look down at the instrument panel. The system can be used during day and night operations.
