By Mass High Tech staff

General Dynamics Corp.’s Armament and Technical Products division has won a five-year, $39 million contract from Lockheed Martin to produce F-16 Ammunition Handling Systems. The first order, for $8.9 million, is intended for Turkish and Moroccan F-16 fighter jets and will be delivered in April 2010.

Assembly work on the contract order will be conducted at the Armament and Technical Products’ facility in Saco, Maine, with program management work operating from General Dynamics’ Burlington Technology Center in Burlington, Vt.

Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products designs, develops and produces armament systems, defensive armor, aerospace components, mobile shelter systems, and biological and chemical detection systems.

The company announced on Friday that its Saco and Burlington facilities would receive additional work after having won a $16 million contract extension from the U.S. Navy for further production of M61A2 20mm automatic Gatling gun systems to be used on F/A-18 fighter jets.

General Dynamics, based in Falls Church, Va., employs approximately 92,300 people worldwide.
