General Dynamics brings $16M contract work to Maine

General Dynamics Corp. has won a $16 million contract extension from the U.S. Navy for further production of M61A2 20mm automatic Gatling gun systems to be used on F/A-18 fighter jets.
The company’s Saco, Maine, manufacturing facility will perform the work, to be completed and delivered in 2011, with the unit’s Burlington, Vt., facility handling program management.
General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) received the first contract for $10 million in 2005, with a contract extension in 2006 for $12.5 million.
In January, General Dynamics received a $12 million contract from the U.S. government to produce MK47 Striker40 lightweight, portable grenade launchers that have sensing, targeting and computer-programming technology.
Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products designs, develops and produces armament systems, defensive armor, aerospace components, mobile shelter systems, and biological and chemical detection systems.
General Dynamics, based in Falls Church, Va., employs approximately 92,300 people worldwide.
