Skyward Mobile files Ch. 7 bankruptcy
By Efrain Viscarolasaga
Wakefield-based mobile application developer Skyward Mobile LLC filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy yesterday, citing $3.6 million in total liabilities, according to court documents and a report by the Boston Business Journal.
Founded by former MobiTV Inc. CTO Jeremy De Bonet, Skyward mobile built mobile applications such as casual games for use on most any handset available. De Bonet co-founded the company with Mike Wessler, a former researcher at Sun Microsystems Labs and a member of former Vice President Al Gore’s technology staff.
Among the liabilities listed in the filings is more than $1.5 million in salaries due De Bonet, Wessler and Vice President of Engineering Misha Bolotski, a former executive at California-based Microdisplay Corp., which folded its own doors in 2007.
Prior to launching Skyward Mobile, De Bonet left MobiTV abruptly. After Skyward Mobile’s appearance, MobiTV, which makes streaming video and audio for mobile phones, sued De Bonet, claiming he had allegedly taken trade secrets with him when he left.
Among the liabilities in Skyward Mobile’s Chapter 7 filing is a $400,000 settlement claim for MobiTV.
In an interview with Mass High Tech in October of 2007, De Bonet claimed the company was bootstrapped but looking for private funding. There is no record with the Securities and Exchange Commission showing any funding to the company.
At the time of the interview, Skyward Mobile reported 20 employees.
