BHCC brings in entrepreneurship grant

By Mass High Tech Staff

Bunker Hill Community College won a boost for its one-year-old Community Center for Entrepreneurship from the John E. and Jeanne T. Hughes Charitable Foundation, which awarded the college a $7,500 grant to provide financial support for its second year.

The college launched the center a year ago, with a $5,000 grant from the Coleman Foundation, a partner of the Hughes foundation.

Since it was established, the CCE has played a role in founding The Entrepreneurship Consortium with Boston University, Babson College, Harvard University, Simmons College, Northeastern University and MIT. According to college officials, the center is focused on meeting the needs of the community as well as the students, and it regularly hosts local business leaders and business journalists to help students and local business owners develop entrepreneurship skills.

In addition to funding from the Hughes and Coleman foundations, the CCE has also received funds from the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 and Boston Advanced Technological Education Connections (BATEC), a regional system of technical education for work force development.
