Sensata reported to cut 100 jobs

By Mass High Tech staff

Attleboro’s Sensata Technologies Inc., a maker of sensors and controls for industrial applications, has cut 100 positions and given buyout offers to 50 workers, according to published reports.

The firm had taken several preliminary initiatives to avoid layoffs -- including overtime reductions, less travel, forced time off and compulsory plant closings, according to the Attleboro-based Sun Chronicle newspaper. The paper reported that all departments were affected by the restructuring except defense component manufacturing.

Formerly the Sensors & Controls business of Texas Instruments Inc., Sensata became an independent entity in April 2006. The company employs 6,500 people, and reported $1.2 billion in revenue in 2006.
