CA, Rocket Software settle IP lawsuit
By Mass High Tech staff
Rocket Software Inc. and CA Inc. have resolved a legal dispute surrounding CA’s allegations of copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation.
Despite Rocket Software not admitting fault, it agreed to license the source code and trade secrets of CA’s technology associated with the settlement.
The privately held Rocket, which was founded in 1990 and is located in Newton, develops enterprise infrastructure products for original equipment manufacturers, network operators and software companies. It employs 750 workers in Australia, China, Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States.
A January 2008 report noted that the dispute between New York-based CA (Nasdaq: CA) and Rocket Software was already carrying on at that time. The disputes focused on allegations of Rocket developers who were former CA employees incorporating CA intellectual property into Rocket products launched in 2000. At the time, CA, which filed a lawsuit in U.S Federal Court in August 2007, was seeking damages of at least $200 million and an injunction against Rocket Software.
