U.S. Genomics stays at Cummings

U.S. Genomics Inc. has renewed its lease with Cummings Properties at its Gill Street Life Sciences Cluster in Woburn. Located at 12 Gill St., the combined office and lab space spans nearly 40,000 square feet. Marc Knittle, key accounts manager, and Tony Spencer, a leasing/property manager, represented Cummings in the lease renewal. The cluster is home to more than two dozen life sciences firms. 

U.S. Genomics is a life sciences startup specializing in single-molecule research and analysis for diagnostic and biodefense applications. Cummings Properties is a commercial real estate development company in Woburn.


Curtiss-Wright signs new deal in Littleton digs

Curtiss-Wright Controls Inc. has signed a lease with Needham-based real estate investment firm Bulfinch Companies Inc. The space, which measures 63,710 square feet, is located at the recently renovated Taylor Woods at 151 Taylor St. in Littleton. Mark Roth and Torin Taylor of Cushman & Wakefield represented Curtiss-Wright (NYSE: CW) in the transaction and Brian McKenzie, John Wilson, James Lipscomb and Robert Byrne of Richards Barry Joyce & Partners represented Bulfinch. Curtiss-Wright Controls Inc. is a tech company specializing in niche motion systems and is known for its previous role in manufacturing Blackhawks for the U.S. military.
 



BioMed Realty Trust Inc. has signed two lease extensions in Cambridge with Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc., for spaces totaling more than 292,000 square feet. The BioMed rental properties are located at 40 Erie St., which also functions as Vertex’s corporate headquarters, and 200 Sidney St. Both leases now extend through Dec. 31, 2015. In total, Vertex (Nasdaq: VRTX) leases approximately 685,000 square feet at five BioMed properties, including approximately 604,000 total square feet in Cambridge and 81,000 square feet in San Diego. San Diego-based BioMed Realty Trust (NYSE:BMR) is a real estate investment trust that focuses on the life sciences industry.

Site Acquisitions Inc., doing business as SAI Communications, has leased 10,075 square feet of office and flex space at 260 Cedar Hill St. in Marlborough. Stephen C. Bradley, senior vice president of Framingham-based New Dover Associates Inc., represented the property owner, TV Marlborough LLC. With the lease signing of SAI Communications, 260 Cedar Hill St. is now fully leased. New Dover Associates Inc. is the exclusive leasing agent for the property. SAI Communications is a telecommunications consulting company based in Salem, N.H.

Hyaluron Contract Manufacturing Inc. of Burlington recently leased an additional 6,200 square feet at 20 Blanchard Road. Brandon Kelly and Alex Berger of Burlington-based R.J. Kelly Co. represented both the landlord and Hyaluron in this transaction. Hyaluron is headquartered at 99 South Bedford St., which is located in the same office park as 20 Blanchard Road. It occupies approximately 50,000 square feet of office and lab space in Burlington. Hyaluron aseptically fills liquid and lyophilized products into syringes, vials and custom containers. 

Makoto Life Sciences Inc. has signed a lease that moves its headquarters from Cambridge to 15 DeAngelo Drive in Bedford. Makoto, which specializes in small-molecule target identification, is relocating to Bedford, following a growing trend of life sciences companies that are moving to the suburbs from Boston and Cambridge. Makoto has leased the entire single-floor laboratory and office building, which consists of 20,000 square feet. The space is being subleased from Applied Biosystems. Richards Barry Joyce & Partners LLC, a commercial real estate advisory firm, represented Makoto. Applied Biosystems, the sublandlord, was represented by Cushman & Wakefield.

SemiNex Corp. signed a lease for space at 100 Corporate Place in Peabody. SemiNex is a fabless designer and provider of high-power long wavelength semiconductor lasers for the industrial, military and consumer markets. The move will consolidate SemiNex’s operations and engineering. Founded in 2003, SemiNex is a private corporation that set a world record in 2006 for laser diode power.
