Charles Wesley Walton has joined Lexington-based Microbia Precision Engineering Inc. as director of North American sales. In this newly created position, Walton will be responsible for developing and maintaining business accounts and building customer relationships across North America. Before joining Microbia, Walton was executive vice president and a co-founder of Attitude Drink Co., for which he created the IQZOL and Vis Viva brands and managed product development. Microbia is an industrial biotechnology company established in 2006 as a majority-owned subsidiary of Ironwood Pharmaceuticals Inc.

Ariad Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: ARIA) has appointed three senior executives to Ariad’s management team in newly created positions: Daniel M. Bollag as senior vice president of regulatory affairs and quality, Andreas Woppmann as vice president of manufacturing operations and Kelly M. Schmitz as vice president of information technology and operations. Prior to joining Ariad, Bollag served as vice president of regulatory affairs for Genzyme Corp. Woppmann previously worked as vice president of pharmaceutical development, operations and quality at Indevus Pharmaceuticals Inc. Schmitz served as vice president of solutions practice for Maxiom Consulting Group. Ariad is a Cambridge-based oncology therapies company.


Services
McGladrey & Pullen LLP, a partner-owned accounting firm, has hired Chris Brathas as an audit partner. He will lead the Boston office’s education practice and serve other not-for-profit clients. Brathas earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from Boston College’s Carroll School of Management. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, and serves on the boards of area charitable organizations.

Accounting Management Solutions Inc., a Waltham-based provider of accounting, financial management, and consulting services, has appointed Ian Carver and Patrick Kavey as business development directors. Carver will lead business development in the technology sector for the AMS Business Solutions practice. He most recently served as the Boston regional manager for DLA Piper LLP, a legal service provider, where he worked with emerging companies and investors. Kavey, a former regional vice president for Fidelity Investments, was named business development director for the education market within the AMS Nonprofit Solutions practice.

Westborough-based Akibia Inc. has hired Robert Klotz as vice president of technology. Klotz will communicate Akibia’s vision to customers, partners, prospects and the industry as a whole. He will partner with Akibia’s customers, serving as a resource for advice and best practices while also ensuring the company is delivering services that align with customer priorities. Prior to Akibia, Klotz was a general manager at Eirteic Consulting. Akibia is a provider of consulting, integration and support for data center, network and security solutions.


Finance
Clarus Ventures LLC, a Cambridge-based life sciences venture capital firm, has hired Edward Scolnick as a venture partner and Finny Kuruvilla as a principal in the firm’s Cambridge office. Scolnick also serves as the director of the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. He was formerly the president of the Merck Research Labs. Kuruvilla is also from the Broad Institute where he led a collaborative effort with Affymetrix Inc. (Nasdaq: AFFX) in medical genetics.
