Zoll files patent lawsuit against Alsius
By Mass High Tech staff
Resuscitation technology firm Zoll Medical Corp. has filed a lawsuit against Alsius Corp. and Alsius Medical Corp., citing patent infringement. The lawsuit was filed in the Central District Court of California.
Chelmsford-based Zoll Medical (Nasdaq: ZOLL) provided no further details of lawsuit.
Alsius is an Irvine, Calif.-based maker of “advanced intravascular temperature management therapies for critically ill patients.”
Last month, Zoll Medical received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market and sell its R-Series Code-Ready clinical defibrillator with a wi-fi option, Zoll officials reported. The wi-fi option prevents unexpected failure of the defibrillator by signaling to clinicians “when their state of readiness is compromised.” The defibrillator can be run through troubleshooting from a hospital networked computer.
Zoll Medical sells its products in more than 140 countries worldwide.
