EPA cites Fall River firms for hazardous waste violations
By Mass High Tech staff
The EPA has filed a federal district court complaint against Fall River’s NuChrome Inc., Nu-Chrome Restoration Corp. and Custom Chrome LLC, as well as the companies’ manager Donald Kemp, for allegedly violating hazardous waste management laws. If found guilty, the companies could be forced to pay penalties of up to $32,5000 for each daily violation.
NuChrome operates a metal plating facility that is said to generate chromium, nickel and copper sludges, cyanide process wastewater and corrosive wastewater.
The EPA complaint alleges that NuChrome failed to hold a permit to treat and store hazardous waste; failed to inspect storage waste areas; failed to conduct hazardous waste determinations; and did not label and date hazardous waste containers.
The allegation follows a number of prior EPA violation citations from 1999 that the EPA said revealed noncompliance with following hazardous waste management regulations.
