Industry groups call for Mass. IT jobs study

By Mass High Tech staff

The IT Study Group, a consortium that includes members of both the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council and the Massachusetts NetComms Council, have jointly commissioned a study of the information technology industry in the commonwealth. The study is expected to examine the industry’s economic benefits and notable job growth and pinpoint obstacles to its growth and expansion in the future.

The Donahue Institute’s Economic and Public Policy Research Group at the University of Massachusetts is responsible for conducting the study, while the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative’s John Adams Innovation Institute and a consortium of private companies will underwrite the $150,000 study. According to the IT Study Group, the examination will determine the competitiveness of IT compared to other industries in Massachusetts.

Founded in January 2008, the IT Study Group consortium also includes the governor’s Office of Housing and Economic Development, as well as technology companies such as Cisco, EMC, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Verizon and AT&T.
