Cubist exec Perez joins AMAG Pharmaceuticals board

Cambridge biotech firm AMAG Pharmaceuticals Inc. has named Cubist Pharmaceuticals Inc. executive Robert J. Perez to its board of directors.
AMAG (Nasdaq: AMAG) is developing treatment for anemia and diagnostic tools for cancer and cardiovascular disease. Its product candidate Fereheme is intended for use as an intravenous iron replacement therapeutic agent to treat iron deficiency anemia and as a diagnostic tool in assessing arterial disease.
Perez is executive vice president and COO of Cubist Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: CBST), handling business development, commercial and technical operations and information technology. He also led the development of Cubicin, Cubist’s treatment for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Before he joined Cubist in 2003, Perez served most recently as vice president-CNS business unit at Biogen Inc., where he managed the $800 million commercial development of the company’s neurology business department. Prior to spending nine years at Biogen, Perez also worked at Zeneca Pharmaceuticals. Perez graduated from The Anderson School at UCLA with an MBA and from California State University, Los Angeles, with a bachelor of science degree.
