Zoll wins $2M contract from Canadian ambulance firm
Chelmsford-based resuscitation device and software maker Zoll Medical Corp. has won a $2 million contract from the Ottawa Paramedic Service (OPS).
This is the OPS’ third major purchase of Zoll (Nasdaq: ZOLL) gear since the service was launched in 2001 as one of Canada’s largest pre-hospital medical service providers. Under the terms of the current agreement, OPS will buy 113 E Series defibrillators, 44 AED Plus units, and 84 AED Pro models for deployment in Ottawa’s emergency medical services, fire, and police vehicles, as well as at some community centers.
The OPS said in a statement that Zoll’s equipment relies on the same operating system, that it all works similarly, and it is user friendly. Zoll provides a fully integrated system, which was the major factor in the purchase, claimed the agency.
Last December, Zoll won 510 k clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to sell its new R Series BLS and R Series Plus defibrillators. Zoll has already begun shipping the units . These new R Series BLS and R Series Plus are meant to be easy to use and can be deployed relatively cheaply to any hospital department.
Also this past week, Zoll announced its revenues for the first quarter of fiscal 2009 were $89.5 million, compared to revenues in the first quarter of 2008 of $93 million. Net income was $2.9 million for the quarter, down from $3.18 million in the prior year.
