Cambridge Consultants licenses inhaler tech to 3M
By Mass High Tech staff
Cambridge Consultants, an engineering and consulting firm in both Cambridge, England, and Cambridge, Mass., has licensed its Conix dry powder inhaler technology platform to 3M Drug Delivery Systems. The agreement enables 3M to develop new dry powder inhalers that take advantage of Cambridge Consultants' 'reverse flow cyclone.'
No financial terms of the licensing deal were disclosed.
The inhaler technology has no propellants nor moving parts, but instead relies on a “unique swirling action” to deliver oxygen. According to Cambridge Consultants officials, Conix has recorded a 40 percent increase in respirable dose over other inhaler products.
Cambridge Consultants has about 20 unique dry powder technology and metered device inhaler developments worldwide. In addition to the medical technology sector, the company offers business consulting and intellectual property license development in the industrial, consumer products, automotive, transport, energy and wireless communications industries.
3M Drug Delivery Systems develops pharmaceuticals with 3M’s inhalation or transdermal drug delivery technology.
