PITCHING THE TECHNOLOGY

Surf Knight calls itself an Internet safety solutions provider targeted at children. The company has two products comprising what it calls its “safe Internet Formula,” — Surf Knight Web Browser, and Internet Search Engine. The company says Surf Knight Web Browser combines parental controls with a user interface meant to be child friendly, while its proprietary search engine is designed to return results suitable for children.

Who is on the management team? Metin Kandiyoti, founder and CTO, formerly of Houghton Mifflin Co.; and Karolina Novitska, design lead, freelance designer.

PITCHING THE BUSINESS

How much money is being sought? Surf Knight is seeking $500,000 to $1 million in seed investment.

What partnerships, collaborations or affiliations are already in place? Surf Knight says its search engine is available through Google Gadgets. The company also offers search plug-ins for Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

List any federal or state grants, contracts or awards received: Surf Knight says its web browser has been recommended by popular sites such as Parents.com, and eHow.com. The company was also nominated for Parents.com’s seal of approval.

What’s the market size being pursued?
The company estimates spending on toys and entertainment software in the U.S. at $36.2 billion in 2007 with 3.9 percent annual growth.
