Mass High Tech honors largest-ever group of 'Tech Citizens'

By Mass High Tech Staff

Mass High Tech, The Journal of New England Technology, awarded 22 technology companies this morning during its 2008 Tech Citizenship awards breakfast. Now in its 8th year, the MHT Tech Citizenship award recognizes the region’s top technology companies giving back to their communities.

This year, companies from industries ranging from the life sciences to software and hardware, were honored for their corporate philanthropy and focus on partnering with local charities. The companies were profiled in the Nov. 21, 2008, edition of Mass High Tech, which was dedicated entirely to coverage of tech citizenship news, and online in a special website built by MHT for the purpose of highlighting the companies and their achievements.

To qualify, this year’s Tech Citizenship award-winning companies donated at least one-half of 1 percent of gross revenue, or a minimum of $500,000 in total value, to nonprofit causes in 2007.

“Difficult as it may be in the current economy, the private sector must be even more creative, and more generous, in helping its nonprofit neighbors do the work they do: reaching and keeping society’s weakest members from falling through the ever-widening cracks of society,” said Douglas Banks, editor of Mass High Tech. “This year’s group of Tech Citizens, our largest ever, is an example of just how dedicated the technology industry is in being a good corporate partner in such an important challenge.”
