Former Stryker sales rep. found to plead guilty

By Mass High Tech Staff

A former sales representative for a Hopkinton medical device manufacturer, found to be Stryker Biotech, has pleaded guilty to charges that he falsified documentation for medical devices he was selling, according to published reports.

The Boston Business Journal uncovered the identity of Stryker, which had not been named fully in court. The sales rep, Darnell Martin, of Chicago, provided written instructions for using the medical devices in a manner not sanctioned by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Boston Business Journal reported.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 13, 2009. If convicted, Martin could spend eight years in prison and pay $260,000 in fines, the report adds.

Stryker Biotech is part of Stryker Corp. in Kalamazoo, Mich.
