Autodesk opening new division HQ in Waltham

By Mass High Tech Staff

Computer-aided design software firm Autodesk Inc., which has its global headquarters in California, announced it will be opening the headquarters for its architecture, engineering and construction division in Waltham.

The 65,000 square-foot facility on Trapelo Road has been constructed with the intention of seeking Gold LEED Certification standards from the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Core & Shell and LEED for Commercial Interior programs.

Construction of the office involved using Autodesk’s building information modeling software, which was able to predict the building’s energy performance and enable sustainable design and construction, officials said.

Founded in 1982, Autodesk maintains a number of offices in the New England area, including Manchester, N.H., and Colchester, Vt. In May, Autodesk reported its acquisition of Moldflow Corp., a Framingham-based maker of software for the design and manufacturing of plastic components, for about $297 million.

Autodesk (Nasdaq: ADSK), which makes the industry standard design software AutoCAD, reported a profit of $356 million on revenue of $2.18 billion for 2007.
