New Pfizer research unit opens in Cambridge, adds workers

Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc. has opened a new research unit today called Pfizer Regenerative Medicine in both Cambridge, Mass., and Cambridge, England. The new research unit will add about 70 new workers between the two facilities, led by chief scientific officer Ruth McKernan.
Pfizer Regenerative Medicine is designed as an independent research unit to study stem cell use in organ repair and degenerative disease treatment. The units will rely on pharmaceutical, biotech and academic partnerships, Pfizer officials said.
The Massachusetts unit will be dedicated to endocrine and cardiac research and located at Pfizer’s Research Technology Centre in Cambridge. The British research unit, to be located at Granta Park, will be dedicated to sensory and neural disorders.
Pfizer, founded in 1849, employs more than 84,000 workers in more than 90 countries.
