Zoll closes fiscal ’08 with record numbers and a new partner

By Mass High Tech Staff

Resuscitation technology company Zoll Medical Corp. reports it has closed its fiscal 2008 with a 29 percent jump in revenue and 41 percent increase in profit. In addition the Chelmsford-based company has entered into a deal with California company to integrate its technology into Zoll’s E-Series defibrillators.

For the fiscal year 2008, which closed on Sept. 28, Zoll (Nasdaq: ZOLL) posted revenue of $398 million, versus 2007 revenues of $309.5 million, and a fiscal 2008 profit of $23.4 million, against $16.66 million in fiscal 2007.

According to officials at Zoll, the company’s biggest jump in sales revenue came from the North American hospital market, which increased 37 percent to $117.1 million, versus fiscal 2007 revenue of $85.3 million.

Richard A. Packer, CEO of Zoll, said that in addition to strong North American sales, international sales exceeded the company’s original estimates.
Zoll’s newest partnership is with Masimo Corp. (Nasdaq: MASI), which is working with Zoll on a multi-year technology agreement to integrate its Rainbow SET technology into Zoll’s E-Series defibrillators, which would allow them to continuously measure carbon monoxide (SpCO) and methemoglobin (SpMet) levels in the blood.

According to the companies, Masimo’s Rainbow SET technology works non-invasively, making it easier to diagnose and treat carbon monoxide poisoning and methemoglobinemia. No financial details of the agreement were disclosed.

Masimo, founded in 1989, is based in Irvine, Calif.
