Just in time for the holiday shopping season, iRobot Corp. has opened its first ever retail kiosk in the Burlington Mall.
The mall kiosk, just down the street from Bedford-based iRobot’s (Nasdaq: IRBT) old Burlington headquarters, will offer direct and online sales of the company’s robots, including the Roomba vacuum cleaner, Scooba floor washer, Looj gutter cleaner, Dirt Dog industrial sweeper and Verro pool cleaner. The kiosk will be open until Jan. 15, 2009, and will feature live demonstrations of the robots, the company said.
Last month, Helen Greiner resigned from her position as chairman of the board at iRobot. The board voted unanimously to have CEO Colin Angle replace Greiner as chairman while continuing to serve as CEO. Greiner will continue serving the board as a non-employee director, in addition to working with the Robotics Technology Consortium and Massachusetts Robotics Cluster, she said. Both Greiner and Angle were chosen as Mass High Tech All Stars in 2007.
Just yesterday, iRobot reported it had received a $3.5 million contract with the U.S. Army to supply 26 of the company’s PackBot 510 with FasTac Kit robots. The deal is the seventh order under an existing indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity xBot contract awarded last fall that could reach $286 million. To date, iRobot orders under the contract have totaled about $67 million.
Bedford-based iRobot reported a 2007 net income of $9.1 million on revenue of $249.1 million.
