Review: BlackBerry Bold a real contender
By Mass High Tech Staff
You’d think a new iPod had been released, or that votes were being cast, but the big lines outside the AT&T stores on Washington and Boylston streets in Boston Tuesday were instead customers trying to buy the new BlackBerry Bold, according to the Boston Business Journal’s Eric Convey.
The early review of the Bold, the newly released smartphone from Research in Motion Ltd., is positive. The Boston Business Journal conducted a test run of the device over a few days, which sold out immediately in two Boston AT&T stores. Convey reported that the stores were quickly restocking supplies of the Bold Tuesday afternoon.
BlackBerrys historically have been great for data but not so great visually, Convey reports. However, the publication’s review of the Bold offered overall praise for both its data and visual appeal. The screen is readable and “simply beautiful”; the qwerty keyboard operates as a legitimate alternative to the iPhone’s touchscreen; and the multimedia functions operate sufficiently, though with some blurring in taking still photos, the Boston Business Journal reported.
The BlackBerry website includes in the Bold’s features built-in GPS functionality, Wi-Fi enabled networks, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint editing tools, mobile streaming capabilities and 624-MHz processing speed.
