Greene flies from Flagship to Valhalla

By Mass High Tech Staff

Kevin Greene, a former principal at Flagship Ventures, has left the Cambridge venture capital firm to join Valhalla Partners, a Vienna, Virginia-based venture capital firm, as a principal.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Greene had worked at Flagship since June, 2006. Prior to that, he held positions at IBM Corp. and Goldman Sachs.

In the move to Valhalla, Greene returns to his native northern Virginia, according to the firm. A University of Virginia graduate, he earned his Masters in Business Adminstration at Harvard University and is currently a fellow in the Kauffman Fellows Program.

Valhalla Partners is a 20-year-old venture capital firm focused on technology startups in the mid-Atlantic region. The company reports it has made 120 investments over its lifetime, and produced nearly $1 billion in investment proceeds.

Flagship, led by co-founders Noubar Afeyan and Ed Kania,  is an early-stage venture capital firm with more than $600 million in funds and a portfolio of 40 companies. It focuses on startups in therapeutics; life science tools and diagnostics; bioenergy; and cleantech. Earlier this month, medical diagnostics startup T2 Biosystems Inc. secured a $10.8 million second round of venture capital from Flagship Ventures, along with fellow Series A investor Polaris Venture Partners and new investors Flybridge Capital Partners, Partners Healthcare Inc. and CIA venture arm In-Q-Tel.
