Vascular robotic systems developer Corindus Inc. has appointed David M. Handler as its president and CEO, replacing Frank Martin. Handler began working in his new position on October 1.
Prior to joining Corindus, Handler served as general manager for the global MRI marketing department at General Electric Co., where he worked for 20 years.
Handler graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Union College and has had management training from GE’s Jack Welch Leadership Development Center.
Martin served as president and CEO of the company since May 2007 and will continue serving as a member of the board of directors.
A startup opened in January 2006, Corindus designs, develops and markets remote control systems for cardiology operations. In April, the company secured $12.8 million in a Series B round of financing to develop its remote-controlled catheter system for cardiovascular surgeries.
In July, the startup moved its headquarters from Newton to Natick.
Corindus’ main product, the CorPath system, is intended to allow physicians to control the movements of catheters through arteries during angioplasties with a joystick at a workstation just outside of the operating room, according to the firm.
Corindus was founded in Israel as NaviCath in 2002 by Rafael Beyar and Tal Wenderow and moved its headquarters to the U.S. in 2005.
