LogMeIn takes award at Mobile Internet show

By Mass High Tech Staff

In the closing ceremonies of this week’s Mobile Internet World Conference & Expo at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, local application developer LogMeIn Inc. of Woburn won the show’s Most Innovative Enterprise Application award.

LogMeIn was the only local firm to win top honors in the conference’s awards, sponsored by xchange magazine and Trendsmedia. Burlington-based Nuance Communications Inc. was a runner up in the Most Innovative Consumer Mobile Internet Application for its Open Voice Search mobile speech recognition technology.

LogMeIn’s Rescue+Mobile is a multi-platform support tool that is essentially an extension of the company’s PC support and repair application. The platform can remotely access and repair Windows Mobile, Symbian and BlackBerry smartphones, allowing call centers and other support organizations to deliver on-demand remote support.

The three-day Mobile Internet World, which focused on the growing mobile environment, was laden with talk of location-based services and mobile social networks, two sectors working to find their place in the mobile world. According to several panelists and attendees, both sectors are still finding their place in the ecosystem.

In the social networking space, generating revenue has been a challenge, but Justin Siegel, CEO of Boston-based JNJ Mobile Inc., which is the company behind the mobile social network MocoSpace, said on a panel the company has been generating “millions” in revenue and that the ad-supported model is working.

The conference drew a wide swath of industry players, including developers, carriers and investors. According to data from show organizers, participants from the financial and venture capital sector represented the largest percentage of attendees, with 20 percent of attendees falling in that category. The carriers/service provider industry was also well represented with 12 percent.
