Taiwan-based MediaTek Inc., which has been ranked the fastest growing fabless semiconductor company outside of the U.S., has opened its U.S. wireless headquarters in Woburn.

The new facility will be home to the wireless division that MediaTek acquired from Norwood-based Analog Devices Inc. for $350 million earlier this year. The unit will be responsible for the development of multi-generation analog and digital chipsets for wireless applications.

Several members of MediaTek’s executive team, including chairman and CEO Ming-Kai Tsai, were on hand for today’s dedication ceremony.

While executives did not disclose the number of employees at the new facility, the Analog Devices acquisition included 400 people from the business unit. The firm also intends to continue hiring new talent for the local facility, according to a statement.

With 2007 revenue of $2.4 billion, MediaTek has become one of the largest fabless semiconductor companies in the world, according to the Fabless Semiconductor Association. The company was founded in 1997 and develops chips for an array of applications, including wireless communications, high-definition digital TV, optical storage and high-definition DVD products.
