Lycos Inc. has added the chief operating officer title to chief financial officer Kevin Baillie, and promoted marketing and new media veteran Chuck Ball to the role of chief marketing and product innovation officer. Baillie now has responsibility for Waltham-based Lycos’ existing products including Lycos Search, Gamesville and the Tripod and Angelfire web publishing properties, as well as the company’s technology and operational infrastructure. He rejoined Lycos in June 2005 as CFO, having previously worked at Lycos from 1998 through 2003 as corporate controller. Ball brings to Lycos more than 25 years experience in brand and product marketing, business development, and general management, serving previously in executive management roles for Movielink LLC, Vivendi Universal, Disney/Buena Vista Home Entertainment, and Proctor & Gamble. Ball most recently served as chief marketing officer of Movielink.
Prior to that, he served as CEO for Flexplay Technologies Inc.

Expert Server Group of Bedford, N.H., has named Les Veilleux to the newly created position of director of sales, responsible for growing and managing Expert Server Group’s sales and services on the Sun Microsystems platform. Prior to ESG, Veilleux joined the executive sales team at Winternals Software, which was acquired by Microsoft Corp. in late 2006. Veilleux also spent over 14 years at Sun Microsystems focusing efforts in the Boston financial sector. Previously, he spent a three-year stint at Oracle Corp. as the global account manager for Fidelity Investments. In addition, Veilleux worked as a consultant for sales and marketing firm, MacGillivray & Lee.
Professional services firm Epoch, a Boston-based broker of executives and professionals for short-term and project-based work for the financial services industry, is launching a new Executive Mentoring Institute, and has hired Catherine Manning to lead the institute as executive director. Manning has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, where she held senior executive positions at State Street Global Advisors, John Hancock and, most recently, Deutsche Asset Management. She is also an adjunct professor at Babson College.
Daystar Computer Services has hired John Faggiano as director of business development at the Newington, N.H.-based firm. For the past five years, Faggiano co-owned and managed an audio, visual and technology services company. In his new role, Faggiano is responsible for strategic planning, process development and tactical implementation. Furthermore, his expertise will be used in the ongoing review of Daystar’s existing and new service offerings to Seacoast-area businesses.
Biotech
Genstruct Inc. of Cambridge has appointed Louis Latino as vice president of sales. Latino has nearly 30 years of senior sales management and direct sales experience. Prior to joining Genstruct, he was vice president of North America, life sciences sales and support for Accelrys Inc., a developer of a broad range of technologies, including computer-aided molecular design and scientific business intelligence software. Previously he worked as vice president of worldwide sales for Geneformatics and as a regional sales manager for Biosym Technologies. Latino has also held senior sales positions with Superscape Group, Mitchell Management Systems and BIW Cable Systems.
Software
Prasad Putta, co-founder and former head of business development for OATSystems, has been named its vice president and general manager by parent company Checkpoint Systems Inc. of New Jersey. OATSystems, an RFID software company based in Waltham, was acquired by Checkpoint in June 2008. Putta is responsible for leading OATSystems’ strategy and operations in its new structure as a division of Checkpoint. In addition, Sanjay Sarma, who was OATSystems’ co-founder and chief scientist, has been retained as Checkpoint technology adviser and a member of the Checkpoint Innovation Council.
