UTC elects Kangas to the board

Hartford, Conn.-based United Technologies Corp. has announced that Edward A. Kangas, former chairman and CEO of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, has been elected to the 12-member board of directors.

Serving Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu from 1989 to 2000, Kangas helped grow revenue from $2 billion to $11 billion. While there, he helped merge Deloitte Haskins & Sells and Touche Ross in 1989.

Kangas earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s of business administration from the University of Kansas. He also works on the boards of Eclipsys Corp., Hovnanian Enterprises Inc., Intuit Inc. and Tenet Healthcare Corp., where he has been the non-executive chairman of the board since July 2003.

Earlier this week, UTC Power, a South Windsor, Conn.-based division of UTC, announced its acquisition of energy engineering firm Architectural Energy Corp., which evaluates buildings based on energy and environmental criteria.

Across its six operating segments, United Technologies (NYSE: UTX) employs more than 225,000 people worldwide. It reported $55 billion in revenue in 2007, with a net profit of $4.2 billion.
