Dynamics Research Corp. reports it has landed $4.8 million from the U.S. Air Force for research on an inventory program.

Under the deal, the Andover-based company will perform developmental research supporting the establishment of the Item Unique Identification umbrella program for Air Force depots.

The deal is a follow-on to a previous deal under which Dynamics Research (Nasdaq: DRCO) worked on asset tracking of repaired, overhauled and manufactured components to determine accountability, valuation and life cycle management. As part of the new effort, Dynamics Research said it will increase the number of items tracked and analyze tagging and labeling methods, including studies of adhesives durability in operational environments.

The award is the thirteenth task order received under the Design Engineering Support Program, bringing the total Dynamics Research has brought in to $50.1 million.

Last month, Dynamics Research landed a $3.4 million order from the U.S. Coast Guard for IT services. Under the deal, the company will assist the Coast Guard’s information system security manager to respond to IT recommendations made by recent financial audits. The order falls under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Enterprise Acquisition Gateway for Leading Edge Solutions (EAGLE).

Dynamics Research was awarded the management and support services portion of the contract, including enterprise architecture, security, training, enterprise resource management, business process reengineering, IT strategy and office support.

Founded in 1955, Dynamics Research reported a 2007 net income of $7.1 million on revenue of $229.6 million.
