Go2 Media picked by Sporting News for new sports portal

Wireless content delivery company go2 Media Inc. reports it has entered into an alliance with Sporting News to distribute the sports-focused company’s content through a new mobile sports portal.

According to officials at Boston-based go2, the new site will feature articles by Sporting News’ writers and go2 mobile correspondents for a local sports perspective, as well as analysis, real-time game coverage and fantasy reports. No financial details of the agreement were disclosed.

The service is free, according to go2, but standard messaging rates would apply. The site will also provide audio from daily Sporting News Flash segments through mobile entertainment company UpSnap.

Go2 Media was formed from a 2007 merger between Boston’s 80108 Media Inc. and California’s UDS Directory Corp. -- now known as go2 Directory Systems. The company provides specialized local content pages such as go2 Colleges, go2 Pets and go2Movies.

Sporting News is a division of Charlotte, N.C.-based American City Business Journals, the parent company of Mass High Tech. The company, founded in 1886, produces a bi-weekly publication, Sporting News Magazine; a daily digital newspaper, Sporting News Today; a national radio network, Sporting News Radio; a community-based website, SportingNews.com; and various sports yearbooks.
