Hanrahan joins Pulmatrix as chief medical officer

Lexington biotech company Pulmatrix Inc. has named John P. Hanrahan as chief medical officer and senior vice president of the company, where he will be responsible for leading clinical trials of the company’s respiratory infectious disease treatment.

Prior to joining Pulmatrix, Hanrahan worked as executive medical director for pulmonary products at pharmaceutical company Sepracor Inc., where he was responsible for clinical development for FDA approval of the firm’s asthma drug Levalbuterol and the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease drug Arformoterol.

Before spending six years at Sepracor, Hanrahan worked at Boehringer-Ingelheim and Muro Pharmaceuticals in clinical development and medical affairs positions.

Hanrahan has served as a researcher in pulmonary epidemiology, working on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, and has been appointed to hospital roles at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Pulmatrix develops treatments for viral and bacterial infections based on research developed by Harvard professor David Edwards. The privately held company is supported financially by Polaris Venture Partners and 5AM Ventures.
