Siemens opens Walpole manufacturing unit
Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics today cut the ribbon on its $100 million expansion of its existing manufacturing facility in Walpole. The 115,000 square-foot building will more than double the company’s production capacity and add 70 new jobs to the area, the company stated. The facility is located on Coney Street in East Walpole.
The grand opening was attended by U.S. Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.); Donal Quinn, CEO of Siemens Healthcare’s diagnostics division; Jim Hughes, vice president and the facility’s head, along with state officials.
Quinn stated that the industry’s “most critical” diagnostic tests are made in Walpole and the expansion was necessary to fulfill growing demand. Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics develops medical testing products for the diagnosis, monitoring and management of disease including molecular imaging tests, laboratory kits and medical devices.
Formerly Siemens Medical Solutions, Siemens Healthcare is the Tarrytown, N.Y.-based subsidiary of Siemens AG (NYSE: SI). Siemens formed the unit in 2007 by combining acquired firms Bayer HealthCare Diagnostics and Diagnostic Products Corp.
