By Mass High Tech Staff
Burlington-based real estate developers The Gutierrez Co. and broker Richards Barry Joyce & Partners LLC (RBJ) in Boston announced biotech space would be included in the new Burlington Research Center.
The 16-acre Burlington Research Center site will have a potential 600,000 square-foot of space available to biotechnology tenants. The center received local approval from Burlington to house biotech research firms. The center at 43-63 South Avenue will also contain additional office space as well as restaurant and retail units.
Richards Barry Joyce & Partners has been named the exclusive leasing agent for the center with Jonathan Varholak, a RBJ partner, and Ron Friedman, its vice president, will lead the project.
According to RBJ, there is strong demand for laboratory space in Burlington. The company reported that out of nearly 1,000,000 square feet of laboratory space in the suburbs north of Route 128, only 8.4 percent vacant.
With lab space currently in demand in the area, RBJ is anticipating a level of interest, said Varholak,
The buildings will be certified “green” through the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program.
