CPEX works with Serenity Pharma on urology drug delivery
By Mass High Tech Staff
Newly independent CPEX Pharmaceuticals Inc. will have its drug delivery technology applied to an intranasal drug candidate for a urology indication, through a collaboration with Serenity Pharmaceuticals Corp.
The drug has a potential $2 billion to $3 billion market, New York-based Serenity said, and is now awaiting FDA approval to begin Phase 1 clinical testing.
CPEX (Nasdaq: CPEX) and privately-held Serenity first collaborated in September 2007 in a feasibility study, followed by a license agreement in February 2008.
CPEX began regular trading on the Nasdaq Capital Market on July 1, following completion of the previously announced spin-off of CPEX from Bentley Pharmaceuticals Inc. Bentley Pharmaceuticals develops European-market generic drugs related to cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, infectious and central nervous system disease treatments.
Based in Exeter, N.H., CPEX develops drug absorption and drug delivery technology, including its intranasal spray Nasulin, currently in Phase 2 clinical trials.
Serenity Pharmaceuticals is a New York-based startup urology company.
