Med device maker Navilyst Medical debuts
By Mass High Tech Staff
A former Boston Scientific fluid management and vascular access business has debuted its new name and company, Navilyst Medical, after private equity firm Avista Capital Partners acquired the business in February for $425 million in cash.
Navilyst medical devices include products used in angiography and angioplasty; vascular access products to transport nutrition, IV antibiotics, blood sampling and hemodialysis; and products that close off access to blood vessels following infusion, aspiration or disconnection, to help reduce the instances of infections in hospitals.
Marlborough-based Navilyst sells its products directly in the U.S. and through distributors in 76 countries. The company maintains 800 employees and has a manufacturing plant in Glens Falls, N.Y.
Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE: BSX) is a developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices whose products are used in interventional medical specialties.
The fluid management business makes products that include those used to manage fluid pressure during cardiac procedures. The venous access business has a line of implant devices used to deliver treatments into the bloodstream.
