Biopharmaceutical startup Rib-X appoints new board chairman
By Mass High Tech Staff
Antibiotics company Rib-X Pharmaceuticals Inc. has named George Milne, Jr. as executive chairman of the board of directors. Milne replaces former board chairman Harry Penner, Jr., who has led the board since January 2001.
Milne, a venture partner with New York life sciences venture capital firm Redius Ventures, has served on the Rib-X Pharmaceuticals board since January 2004. Prior to joining the board, Milne worked for pharmaceuticals giant Pfizer Inc. for 32 years. Among other roles, he held positions as corporate senior vice president and executive vice president for global research and development.
Milne earned his doctorate in organic chemistry from MIT and now serves on several boards including Charles River Laboratories, Mettler-Toledo, BioStorage Technologies, Athersys, Resolvyx, the Mystic Aquarium and the New York Botanical Garden.
New Haven, Conn.-based Rib-X is focused on the discovery and development of novel antibiotics for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant infections.
In June 2006, Rib-X topped the list of New England tech companies’ 2006 second-quarter venture capital funding when it received $50 million in Series C financing.
