By Mass High Tech Staff

New York-based investment banking firm Goldman Sachs & Co. has made a $21 million private equity investment in CambridgeSoft Corp., a Cambridge provider of life sciences software, according to CambridgeSoft.

Related to the deal, CambridgeSoft said, Goldman Sachs vice president Raheel Zia has joined the software firm’s board of directors.

In other CambridgeSoft news, the firm reports it has appointed Michael Stapleton to serve as its vice president of corporate development.  Stapleton, who has 20 years of experience in scientific computing and informatics, previously worked as vice president of global marketing and Internet business at California-based scientific research tools and materials maker Invitrogen Corp., among other companies, according to CambridgeSoft.

CambridgeSoft says it develops and markets enterprise solutions for the pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical and scientific research sectors.
