Palomar to distribute skin imaging systems

By Mass High Tech Staff

Burlington-based Palomar Medical Technologies Inc., a maker of light-based systems for cosmetic treatments, has been given exclusive distribution rights to sell Astron Clinica Ltd.’s Beau Visage skin imaging system and Physiometrics photo imaging system.

The Beau Visage system tracks pigment, blood and wrinkle measurements for use as a tool to recommend cosmetic treatments, like those developed by Palomar (Nasdaq: PMTI), and view skin improvements over time.

The Physiometrics photo imaging system also operates through a library of images taken of a person’s body to track visually the changes that could result with treatment from Palomar’s Aspire SlimLipo laser-assisted lipolysis system.

Palomar announced in March an amendment to its licensing deal for a hair-removal product it has with the Procter & Gamble Co., in which P&G would pay Palomar $1.25 million per quarter until the product is launched, followed by a deal based on the product’s sales.

In January, the company made a deal with Q-MED AB, a Swedish producer of dermal fillers, making the Swedish company Palomar’s exclusive distributor of cosmetic products outside of North America.

Palomar reported a 2007 profit of $20.5 million, with revenue of $123.8 million. The firm employs 225 workers.

Astron Clinica is a skin imaging company with headquarters in Cambridge, England.
