PerkinElmer chief scientist Marshak to lead China operations

Daniel Marshak, senior vice president and chief scientific officer at PerkinElmer Inc., has added a third position, president of Greater China operations, to his role at the company. Based in Shanghai, Marshak will be responsible for leading new product development and overall operations in the Asia-Pacific region.
PerkinElmer (NYSE:PKI), a global provider of health sciences and photonics products, opened a 7,000 square foot technical center in Shanghai in 2007 and employs 1,200 people throughout seven Asia-Pacific cities. Worldwide, Waltham-based PerkinElmer employs 9,100 workers and reported 2007 net income of $131.7 million on revenue of $1.8 billion.
Earlier this month, PerkinElmer announced that it formed the ViaCord Research Institute, which will focus on using umbilical cord blood-derived stem cells for cord blood technologies, emerging stem cell therapies, genetic screening, product development and related transplants.
In March, the company announced the opening of a research and development center in Singapore for drug discovery and development, environmental monitoring, food safety and sustainable energy.
