Conn. tech center lands DOE fuel cell funding
By Mass High Tech Staff
The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology Inc. (CCAT) has received a two-year grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to promote hydrogen and fuel cell technology in early market applications. According to a report in the Hartford Courant, the grant is valued at $200,000.
The funding will help the CCAT engage in a partnership building effort with the DOE that will enable state and municipal decision makers to encourage the development of fuel cell and hydrogen installations, according to officials.
The project is also designed as a possible model for other federal, state and local organizations, according to the organization.
Connecticut’s fuel cell industry boasts more than 1,100 employees and is expected to reach 1,600 by 2010.
The state’s largest fuel cell maker, South Windsor-based UTC Power, a division of United Technologies Corp., accounts for 700 of those jobs.
