Thermo Fisher elects Parrett to board

Medical device giant Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has announced that William G. Parrett has been named the eleventh member of the company’s board of directors, as well as a member of the board’s audit committee.
Parrett formerly spent 40 years working at Deloitte Touch Tohmatsu, where he served as global CEO from 2003 until his retirement in 2007. He also holds positions of chairman of the U.S. Council for International Business, member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, member of the executive board for the International Chamber of Commerce, and member of the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation.
The company recently created a chief operating officer position, appointing Marc Casper, former president of Thermo Fisher’s analytical technologies division, to the role.
Thermo Fisher Scientific (NYSE: TMO), which employs 33,000 workers worldwide, reported 2007 net income of $761.1 million on revenue of $9.7 billion.
