Cambridge Heart licenses MIT heart arrythmia measurement tech
By Mass High Tech Staff
Cambridge Heart Inc. has licensed a patent from MIT covering implantable device technology that measures cardiac signals to prevent heart arrythmias and detect sudden cardiac death.
The intellectual property of U.S. Patent No. 7,336,995 “Method and Apparatus for Tachycardia Detection and Treatment” applies specifically to T-Wave Alternan measurements taken from pacemakers and defibrillators after symptoms occur. Cambridge Heart could apply the patent to tests that detect the arrythmias before symptoms occur.
In October, Cambridge Heart made a change to its stock-incentive plan that prompted many to speculate a potential sale of the company. The rumors, however, have followed Cambridge Heart since January 2007 when it shuffled management positions, including the resignation of former president and CEO Jeffrey J. Langan.
Cambridge Heart (OTC: CAMH), located in Bedford, reported a 2007 net loss of $9.2 million on $10.1 million in revenue.
