Patrick to be named BIO ‘Governor of the Year’

By Mass High Tech Staff

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick is expected to be honored Tuesday as Governor of the Year by the Biotechnology Industry Organization.

Joshua Boger, chairman of BIO’s board of directors and president and CEO of Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. in Cambridge, will present the award, honoring Patrick’s support and leadership in biosciences, at the BIO 2008 International Convention in San Diego.

The governor announced a $1 billion life sciences industry stimulus package at the BIO International Convention last year in Boston. Since then, he’s pushed the bill through the House and just yesterday got final approval from the state Senate to sign off on the $1 billion investment in the state’s life sciences industry.

The BIO International Convention brings together life sciences companies and organizations, as well as investors, in the world’s largest biotech industry gathering.
