BBN Technologies awarded $13.6M contract

By Mass High Tech Staff

The Office of Naval Research has awarded BBN Technologies Corp. with a $13.6 million contract for virtual game-based learning intended for Navy and Marine use. The games will present military training scenarios for instructional purposes.

Work will be completed by April 2013 in Cambridge, where BBN has its headquarters.

Founded in 1948, Cambridge-based BBN specializes in data mining, acoustic technology and speech recognition.

In March, the company landed $5.7 million from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to develop a multi-terabit optical network. DARPA also gave BBN $13 million that same month to expand development of speech and text translation software technology.
