Comcast backs City Year with new three-year, $27M plan
By Mass High Tech Staff
City Year officials reports that the Boston-based nonprofit has expanded its partnership with Comcast Corp., which has committed $27 million worth of goods and services and funding over the next three years.
Philadelphia-based Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) has pledged cross-channel advertising and financial support for City Year, adding on to a pair of previous agreements with City Year over the past five years that had a total value of $30 million.
Comcast will provide $3 million in financial support to City Year and expand the company’s sponsorship of City Year teams to six cities, including Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and the organization’s newest site in Miami, which is expected to launch in the fall of 2008.
In addition to the financial support for teams, Comcast will provide training and leadership development opportunities for City Year corps members and staff, and it will boost its in-kind commitment to City Year, providing free airtime of public service announcements.
City Year, founded in 1988, has provided nearly 16 million hours of service, helping more than 1 million children, officials said.
