Edocs founder Laracey joins Sigma Partners

Boston venture capital firm Sigma Partners has added edocs Inc. founder Kevin Laracey as a venture partner.

Laracey will join managing directors Robert Davoli and John Mandile at Sigma Partner’s Boston office. No specific area of concentration has been announced.

Laracey is best known as founder and CEO of Natick-based edocs, a provider of e-billing and customer self-service software, which was sold in 2004 to Siebel Systems Inc. for $115 million in cash. After the acquisition, Laracey spent three years in Siebel Systems’ customer self service group.

He has also held senior management and operational roles at California-based Elixir Technologies Corp. and the Travelers Companies. Laracey earned an MBA degree from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management and received a bachelor’s degree with high honors from University of Notre Dame.

Founded in 1984, Sigma Partners has three offices and $2 billion under management. Some of the firms’ well-known local portfolio companies include Framingham’s GlassHouse Technologies Inc., Waltham-based Incipient Inc., Westborough-based Virtusa Inc., and Cambridge-based Vlingo Corp.
