Xceed Molecular licenses gene analysis chip tech to Gen-Probe

By Mass High Tech Staff

Xceed Molecular, a Canadian firm with offices in Wellesley, says it has granted Gen-Probe Inc. a non-exclusive license to use Xceed’s Flow-Thru Chip technology for gene analysis.

According to officials at San Diego-based Gen-Probe (Nasdaq: GPRO), the company will incorporate the Xceed technology into its molecular-diagnostics products. Gen-Probe is a maker of nucleic acid testing products for diagnosing human diseases and screening donated human blood.

No financial details of the agreement were released, but officials said Gen-Probe will pay unspecified up-front licensing and milestone fees to Xceed for the Flow-Thru Chip technology in specific fields. Gen-Probe also has the right to obtain co-exclusive rights with Xceed in pre-defined sub-fields.

Xceed’s R&D and manufacturing facilities are based in Toronto, with executive offices in Wellesley.
