Kelly taps out COO role at Raindance

By Mass High Tech Staff

Medical technology firm Raindance Technologies Inc. reports it has named Roch W. Kelly as chief operating officer for the Lexington-based company.

Kelly comes to Raindance from his role as vice president, clinical operations at Synarc Inc., a San Francisco-based clinical trials services firm. Previous positions include: chief operating officer and chief financial officer at Protedyne Inc. of Windsor, Conn.; vice president, clinical operations and worldwide business, at Waltham-based Parexel International Corp.; and executive director of manufacturing operations at Chiron Diagnostics of California.

Raindance Technologies makes microdroplet-based products for human health and disease research. The company’s technology can produce picoliter-sized droplets at a rate of 10 million per hour. Each droplet is like an individual test tube and can contain a single molecule, reaction or cell, according to officials.

The company will focus first on the targeted resequencing of the human genome according to officials. Raindance moved in early May from Connecticut into a 28,000-square-foot building in Lexington. Raindance employs about 35 workers and expects to add 30 employees this year in research, sales and manufacturing posts, according to Stephen Becker, its chief commercial officer.
