EMC donates data center for homeless program
By Mass High Tech Staff
Hopkinton-based storage software and equipment vendor EMC Corp. reports it has donated and installed a data center at the new headquarters of the Boston Health Care for the Homeless (BHCHP) program.
The $250,000 worth of storage systems, software and services will support BHCHP’s clinical and business operations by protecting information and keeping it readily accessible at its headquarters and for its clinicians in the community, according to EMC (NYSE:EMC).
The donation also will help BHCHP raise an additional $4.5 million for the organization as part of a challenge program with the Kresge Foundation, a non-profit support group founded in 1924 by Sebastian Kresge, the founder of Kmart Corp.
EMC’s donation included an EMC Disk Library system and EMC NetWorker software.
The BHCHP runs three hospital-based clinics, and delivers care at more than 80 shelters and sites in the region, including the Pine Street Inn, St. Francis House and New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans.
One of the largest publicly-traded companies in the region, EMC has a history of philanthropic endeavors, including the creation of the five year-old Massachusetts Mathematics Institute in Worcester and the ongoing digitization of information at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum and other cultural institutions.
